Whaphams stands next to the petrol station in that part of the High Street running past Golden Square. (Little Whaphams, next door, was a convent until a few years ago).. The property was extended over the years, but the oldest part probably dates from around 1800. Pop singer Adam Faith lived there in the early 1970s.
