HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

red barn cottageS

St. Anthony's Cottage is actually 1 Red Barn, and there are actually 5 Red Barn Cottages. Two them - nos. 4 & 5 -  lie behind the white building in the High Street, which is No. 2. This conjoins St. Anthony's Cottage at the north-eastern end of the High Street, just across the entrance to the White Hart car park. Red Barn was built on to St. Anthony's and half of the present Red Barn was once the end part of St. Anthony's - you can see the original join in the wall of Red Barn. The two cottages are Grade II listed and the listing describes the cottages as:

C17 or earlier timber-framed building with some timbering exposed at the back but
refronted with brick, now painted, and plastered. Tiled roof. Casement windows.
Doorways with pediment-shaped hoods over. Two storeys. Five windows.

No. 3 Red Barn lies behind St. Anthony's, and forms one side of the White Hart car park. The cottage has been extended and extensively renovated during 2016 and 2017.
