HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

kindersleyS

Kindersleys, formerly known as "The Retreat", is a large, detached house on the northern side of Upper Station Road. In the 1930s a Mrs. Eleanor Kindersley lived in Kindersleys. She gave a bungalow called Hillside, in Lower Station Road, to a trust so that the house could be let to disabled ex-servicemen for a peppercorn rent. Money to keep the house up ran out and it was sold in 1986. The money realised from the sale was invested to allow annual grants to be given to village projects.
