HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

field house

Walk down Furners Lane past the row of houses on the left and the turning to Backsettown. After 100 yards or so, you come to what was once Gill Orchard farm shop and the house belonging to the Whittome family, the owners of Gill Orchard. The farm shop has been replaced by a walled and gated house, the orchard is overgrown, but Field House is still there - with a public footpath (which we used to call Blackberry Lane because it gave us pounds of blackberries each autumn) running north up the west side of the house.
