HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

COUNTRY VIEWS 7 - NOTES

The Brooks from Buckwish: The reverse of this black & white photo simply says "The Brooks from Buckwish". The brooks are the low, flat fields on either bank of the Adur, which have traditionally flooded in winter. The downs are in the distance, and the house in the middle distance may well be Rye Farm.

Jill Mill from Chess Barn: Views of the Jack & Jill mills at Clayton from Henfield proper are obscured by the mass of Wolstonbury Hill. I was walking along the path that leads from Park Farm south to Woodhouse Farm, in the north-east of the parish, when I spotted a white speck in the distance - a speck which reminded me of a windmill. The telephoto lens confirmed my guess - it was indeed Jill. Taken on a summer's Sunday afternoon in 2015. Wolstonbury Hill is on the right of the picture.
