COUNTRY VIEWS 14 - NOTES
Pickwell bridge: This bridge crosses the Chess Brook and lies about two-thirds of the way down the "metalled" - i.e. accessible to cars - part of Furners Lane, past Turnhams Gill but before Bylsborough. Legend has it that a headless woman sits and spins on Pickwell bridge - but then there were 6 pubs in the village at one time... Photographed in early May 2016.
Chess Brook: The Chess Brook meanders through Henfield, along the common and round past Furners Lane, then Chess Brook Green in Wantley, before joining up with the Adur further north and west. Photographed in early May 2016.
Furners Lane barn: This lane runs north off Furners Lane and leads to a ramshackle collection of barns and rusting lorries and other equipment. Photographed in early May 2016.
Wolstonbury from Mill House: The crest of the fields at the top of the lane which leads to Mill House from the Brighton road gives a good view of the surrounding countryside. This view takes in Wolstonbury, which lies on the other side of the main A23, above Pyecombe. Photographed in early May 2016.
Henfield common from Mill House: This view down the field shows the common's trees across the Brighton road. You can see the back of the White House to the left of the photo. Photographed in early May 2016.
Furners Lane from Swain's footpath: The lane which runs up past Swain's farmhouse does a dog leg left up and over the hill and then winds down to Furners Lane. This view looks north from the top of the path, with the line of the lane shown by the trees. The house in the background is Turnham's Gill. Photographed in early May 2016.
Lidd Nurseries: This view from June 2016 is taken from West End Lane and looks north up the lane that leads to Lidd Nurseries.
