Blackhouse Farm
15th century Blackhouse Farm stands right at the bottom of Sandy Lane. It was Grade II listed in 1980 with the description:
C17 or earlier timber-framed building with red brick and plaster infilling. Gable
to east wing with the remains or ornamental timbering. Tiled roof. Casement windows
Two storeys. Four windows.
Agricultural labourer James Simmons, aged 66, lived in Blackhouse in 1851, with his wife Frances, their daughter Louisa and Louisa's husband, James Parson. In 1861, Henry Standen, a 55-year old agricultural labourer, lived at Blackhouse with his wife Harriett, their daughter and several other relations. Henry and his family were there in 1871. Four families lived at the farm in 1881 - the Wests, the Haybittles, the Brownings and the Saunders. In 1901, the occupant was 55-year old plate layer William Burt and his family.

Blackhouse Farm 2: This black & white photo shows a rather dilapidated farm - more of a farm cottage in 1910. A comparison with photo 1 shows that the original front door was where a window is now located, with a new, more modern entrance further to the right of the façade.

Blackhouse Farm: This black & white photo was taken in 1966 and shows the state of the dilapidation before the house was renovated.
