HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

barrow hill house

Barrow Hill House was the home of prominent botanist William Borrer (1781-1862), who was born at Potwell. Many rare plant species were grown in the gardens. During World War 2 the house was occupied by Canadian troops stationed in the village. It was in a poor state and was demolished in the 1950s. The modern houses in Cedar Way occupy the site today.

Barrow Hill House: A photograph of the house, probably from the 1890-1910 period. This was very obviously a  beautiful house and a loss to the village when demolished.
