HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

1 broomfield road

This house, with its striking garden, stands at the junction of Church Street and Broomfield Road. The garden pond is the oldest part of the site, being shown - without the modern house - on maps from the 1870s. At that time, the nucleus of Broomfield Road was a footpath which led past Henfield Place and joined up with Church Street on the other side of this house.

Pond, 1 Broomfield Road: This b&w photo was copied from the Henfield Womens' Institute 1965 scrapbook, and shows the pond at what is now 1 Broomfield Road before those houses were built.
