white mischief, AL-BADAR Barbers
This wedding shop was next to the Evangelical church on the east side of the High Street. The building it occupied was for years an electrical goods shop known locally as "Aley's", and the main branch of the shop was actually in Steyning. Like many another business of its kind, sales started to fall as goods became more available at competitive prices on the internet, and Aley's closed up a few years ago - to be replaced by White Mischief.
F.F. Aley was an old-established name in the village, dispensing petrol in the 1940s from outside buildings which have been replaced by the modern Sustainables4U and White Mischief building. The White Mischief business originally occupied premises that were two separate businesses - Bath Travel Agents in the left-hand section, and Aley's in the right-hand section. The left-hand section was up for rent in 2015 and became the AV8 bookshop in July 2016.
The AV8 bookshop lasted only a few months before becoming vacant, and the premises was taken over by Bespoke Furnishings. The White Mischief premises were taken over by Al-Badar men's hairdressers, whose premises were originally in Caudle Street. Those latter premises are still owned by Al-Badar but now cater for ladies.
