HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

the stonepit

Picture
From the OS map of 1897
The Stonepit, as the name implies, was where stone was quarried. The Henfield sandstone lies on three sides of the ridge on which the village stands, and it was used in the 14th century for the rebuilding of St. Peter's church.
