HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

sage house - formerly russell house

Russell House housed the NatWest Bank building and had stayed virtually unchanged for many, many years - hence the two photographs of it here. In 1931 it was a baker's shop run by one Henry Moore, and then Musson's. It stands in the High Street, across the road from the Plough. The bank announced its closure in June 2018. The premises were up for auction and were gutted in October 2018. The premises are currently a private house.

SHOPS 25

NatWest Bank (Russell House): A photo from late July 2018, showing the premises up for auction, leaving Henfield a growing village with no banks.
