HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

red oaks lodge

This attractive 19th century cottage stands at the very end of Cagefoot, past Potwell and facing the pedestrian entrance to Red Oaks, with the Tanyard pond over the way. It is possible that the "Red Oaks Cottage" listed in the 1891 census is this same house. The resident at that time was 70-year old widow Elizabeth Knight - "Living on own means". It is a Grade II listed building, and the listing describes it as:

Two storeys. Three windows. Faced with flints with dressings, quoins
and horizontal courses of red brick. Tiled roof. Gables with scalloped bargeboards
to north and east. Gabled porch. Casement windows.
