Miscellany 5 - notes
Rothery Field: This is one of the three playing fields in the village, the others being the King's field in Northcroft, and the cricket and football pitches by the common. This picture shows the field in 2007 - the pavilion next to Nep Town Road on the right of the picture, and the old workhouse, now houses, in the distance. The field was given to the village by the Rothery family who lived in Springhills.
Telephone exchange: This building, and automatic exchange, dates from the 1960s and is next to the village hall car park in Coopers Way. Before that the exchange, complete with operators, was in an upper room in Croft House.
Mechanism, Woods Mill: This piece of machinery was part of the waterwheel mechanism at Woods Mill.
William Borrer plaque, Borrer Bank: The plaque is mounted on a stand on the grassy bank and footpath leading up and along Barrow Hill Road - across from the turning into Nep Town Road. The bank once formed part of the garden of Barrow Hill House, home of the famous Botanist William Borrer.
Youth Club 1: This was the old infants school house in Nep Town Road which became the village youth club. It was sold for conversion to housing a few years ago. This photo is from about 2000.
Youth Club 2: A photo from 2015 of the new youth club by the Rothery Field and the Leisure Centre.
Statue at Cibses: The footpath from the Downs Link to the Bull at Mockbridge runs past Little Betley and Cibses. This statue stands, half-hidden in the hedge , just by Cibses.
