HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

 Miscellany 4 - notes

Bank House pump bracket: This is a curiosity. It's a hinged bracket on the side of Bank House in the High Street. These brackets normally held the hose of, say a petrol pump, and were swung out over the pavement so that the hose nozzle could fill whatever it had to fill. The puzzle about this one is that I have no knowledge of Bank House being used as a dispenser of petrol or paraffin. It may well have been at some point in its history - petrol was certainly dispensed from what was F.F. Aleys further north up the High Street - where the modern block containing the solicitor's offices, the furniture shop and Al-Badar's hairdressers are located.

Play area, Northcroft: A kiddie's play area on the edge of Northcroft. A path leads to this from Northcroft, then past the tennis courts to the King's Field and the Leisure Centre. This 2015 photo was taken from the footpath running down past the tennis courts.
