HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

LIPRIDE

Picture
2005
Lipride is an old farmhouse which can be reached by walking on a footpath from Dagbrook Lane, through Broadmere Common and past New Barn Cottage. In 1851, 1861 and 1871 the occupant was Thomas Davey, a 52-year old (in 1861) farm bailiff born in Cuckfield, his wife Mary, born in Slaugham, and their children. Agricultural carter George Laker lived there in 1881 with his wife Eliza and their five children. The family had lived in Billingshurst and Shipley before moving into Lipride in about 1880. In 1901 Lipride was occupied by 54-year old farm carter Ephraim Pullen and his family.
