henfield library
The first village library was in a Mechanics Institute in the High Street in the 1850s. The first Henfield branch of the County Library was then created in the Parish Room in 1925 and then transferred to the Eardly Hall Institute (latterly Woodward's butchers) in 1927. It stayed in the Institute until 1955 when it moved to the Assembly Rooms, with space for about 2,500 books. The present library behind the High Street, to the north of the car park, was built in 1970, then rebuilt and enlarged in 2000.
