jasmine house
The building called Jasmine House encompasses three separate business premises at the north-west of the High Street, in between Ivy House and London House. It has had a chequered history, with businesses coming and going over the years.
SHOPS 7
Jasmine House 1: Angela Measor owned two women's dress and accessory shops called "Angela" in the High Street at one time. The one peeking into the left-hand side of this picture was the second shop in Ivy House - empty. Next to it was the first of the Jasmine House businesses - Jasmine Florists (previously Greenfield's greengrocer's business), and then the main Angela shop next to the Video Box. London House is next along the street, separated from Jasmine House by the alleyway leading to the library and the car park.
Jasmine House 2: This is an earlier photograph showing Angela's second shop in Ivy House very much alive. You can see the "Jasmine House" sign - the doorway also led to an upstairs premises occupied by an accountant. The end shop in the row was for many years a butcher's business in the days when there were two butchers shops in the High Street. The Thorns family were the butchers in the 1900s and in the 1920s, and a butcher called Beverly had it in the 1970s. Some years later it became a video rental shop called The Video Box, then the former premises of the Panissa coffee shop and now the Full Of Beans coffee shop.
Jasmine House 3: In this picture, both Angela's shops have been sold, with Ivy House housing a hairdressing business first called The Salon and then Hyatt's Hair. Jasmine Florists was installed in Angela's former main premises, and the former florists became Stone circle and then River Rose Occasions..
Jasmine House 4: The former florists has now become Stone Circle in this photograph - a "new age" shop selling crystals and other supposedly therapeutic and healing things and treatments.
Jasmine House 5: Stone Circle, predictably, didn't last long and stood empty once more. The Salon in Ivy House was either sold or reinvented itself as Hyatt's Hair.
Jasmine House 6: Stone Circle with brown paper over the windows.
Jasmine House 7: A photo from 2015 showing the former florists and Stone Circle premises occupied by a ladies' hat and accessories shop called River Rose Occasions.
Jasmine House 8 (Jasmine's Florists): A photo consonant with Jasmine House 6 above, showing Jasmine Florists and the empty Stone Circle.
Jasmine House 9: The Video Box on the end of the row sold up in 2014 - another victim of internet commerce - and was replaced by a coffee bar called Panissa owned by Panny and Lisa Soteriou.
Jasmine House 10: A photo from 2015. Panny and Lisa Soteriou opened a second shop nearer home in Southwick and, shortly after it opened, closed up the Henfield shop, which stood empty. Here is the interior before it closed.
