FURNERS farm
Furners Farm lies 300 yards or so down Furners Lane, across the lane from Field House and next to the modern houses which now sit on the site of the old Gill Orchard farm shop. It has not been a farm house for many years. In 1851 and 1861 the occupant was agricultural labourer William Cooper, his wife Charlotte and their son. A young agricultural labourer called Alfred Sturt lived there in 1871 with his wife Harriett and their 6-month daughter Susan. In 1881 the occupier was John Caplin, a 66-year old carter and, in 1891, 29-year old agricultural labourer Thomas Stinger, his wife Sarah and their three daughters.
Across Furners Lane and out of the picture to the left, a footpath runs down the side of Field House which, if followed, takes you up past Park Farm to the Albourne Road - now known as Wheatsheaf Road.
