forges & part forges
The word "forge" has several associations with Henfield. The old village forge owned by "T. Miles & Son" stands on the lower, east side of the High Street and is now a private house. The modern Miles forge can be seen in Station Road. There are also two conjoined houses at the bottom of the High Street, in Golden Square, called Part Forges and Forges. There is also an Old Forge - once an engineering shop at the bottom of Nep Town Road, now converted to a private house. This page deals with the houses in the High Street.

Part Forges timber 1 & 2: Some of the beam and timber work, taken in late June 2019. The marks on the two beams in photo 1 demonstrate that the beams were cut and made ready off site, and then assembled on site - the marks showing where they had to be joined.
Part Forges garden: A view of the garden from the back door. The twitten separating Moustows Manor from Part Forges runs down the left-hand side of the garden, with the roof and chimney of Malthouse Cottage in the background. A photo from late June 2019.
