DUNSTALLs
There are many old farmhouses like Dunstalls on the roads leading down to the brooks south of Henfield. Dunstalls is at the bottom of Windmill Lane, where the road turns right to join up with Sandy Lane. William Simmonds, a 47-year old agricultural labourer, lived at Dunstalls in 1871 with his wife Ellen, their three sons and two lodgers. In 1881, it was occupied by 51-year old Stephen Woolgar, an agricultural labourer born in Bramber. In the house with him were his wife, Harriet, son George - a bricklayer's labourer - and daughters Alice, Martha and Louisa.
