HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

CHURCH LANE

Church Lane runs south off Church Street, runs past Hacketts and St. Peter's church on its left, and ends by the Tanyard and the Catholic church of Corpus Christi.

STREETS 3

Church Lane 1
: This view was taken one damp and wet winter morning about 1995 from Church Street, looking into Church Lane with Hacketts and Duffies on the left and the churchyard visible behind them.

Church Lane 2: A similar view to Church Lane 1, but in black & white and around a hundred years earlier, with an Edwardian lady  contemplating the infant in the perambulator as she leisurely crosses the road.

Church Lane 3: This is a black & white view of the church and Old Tudor Cottage from the other end of Church Lane, which is curving back to Church Street in the photograph. From the clothing of the children, I would date it at around 1920.

Church Lane 4: A similar view to Church Lane 3, but with the lens revealing more of the lane itself. The white house in the distance looks like Appletree Cottage.

STREETS 13

Church Lane: A March 2016 photo showing the lane from Church Street. Hacketts is on the left, and St. Peter's church firmly in the centre of the picture.

STREETS 16

Church Lane: This is a view of the end of the lane, where it meets the Tanyard and the junction with School Lane. Taken in January 2017 from the churchyard overlooking Old Tudor Cottage.

STREETS 17

Church Lane: Another view of the lane at the junction with Church Street - taken from across the road in Church Street in early March 2017.
