HENFIELD THEN AND NOW

school on the common

This building on the south side of the common is now a private house, but was originally a boys' school and then a mixed infants' school. My son attended this school on the common in the late 1970s before moving up to the main St. Peter's school in Fabian's Way in his 3rd year. It was converted into a house in 1984.

School house, the common: A modern photo of the converted school building. The setting is pretty much unchanged as in the older photograph described below, but the bell tower on the roof has gone.

Boys' school, the common: A 1910 photo of the Boys' School, built in the 1820s, with the boys posed in groups outside the school.
