BENSON ROAD
The field north of Furners Lane and east of London Road was an orchard for many years, owned by a man who lived in Lancing. It was bought by Benson Coleman, who owned the adjacent Wantley Manor, about 1970 - purely as speculative development. The cul-de-sac called Benson Road was built in two sections. The original section, completed in the early 1970s, ran as far as the present curve in the road. The remainder of the road was completed in 1976. The Coleman family also owned the arable land at the end of the close - "land east of Manor Close" - as it has been termed by the various councils - which, after many years of development planning and objection, is now the Meadow Walk development and currently (October 2018) almost complete.
