BATTS & BATTS COTTAGE
Batts is a large 17th-century house in Batts Drive, adjoins Batts Cottage, and is a grade-II listed building. In 1841, the occupant was 25-year old farmer Sidney Street, together with agricultural labourer William Knight and his family. Henry Hider, a former farmer aged 76, was the occupant in 1861 and lived there with his wife Sarah and their family. George Martin, a 28-year old groom, was the sole occupant in 1871 - presumably looking after the place while the family were away. In 1901, Batts was occupied by 27-year old Frank Wisden, "living on own means", and his family.
