barnards bakery, all things covered
The business on the corner of Church Street and the High Street was a bakery for many, many years. Arthur Cruttenden started his business here in the early 1890s, and his son Frank continued it in 1932. The junction is still known as Cruttenden's Corner. The business was sold to A.E. Dunford in 1965 and became Barnard's Bakery in 1989. Mr. Dunford was a master cake decorator and often showed his art on cakes displayed in the window. Throughout the years, flour was delivered in the yard next to Radmall's Funeral Services, which adjoins the back of Barnard's premises, and the bakehouse ran down the side of Church Street to Annetta Cottages. The shop closed on December 24th, 2015.
In March 2016, the premises was taken over by All Things Covered, a picture framing and bookbinding business.
