Miscellany 8 - notes
All photos on this page were taken in early February 2016.
Post, Blackgate Lane: There used to be a gate in Blackgate Lane - when it was Love Lane - which was an entrance to the Red Oaks land. Perhaps this post is a relic of that. More research needed...
Lion, Laurel Cottage: This proud little lion stands on guard on the corner wall of Laurel Cottage, previously Nep Town Stores and Wrights Grocers.
Chevrolet Impala: Spotted in Nep Town - quite a sight in a small village street.
Stick no bills: This ancient notice is on the wall of Barn House, just on the left as you walk into Nep Town Road from the High Street. "Bill Posters will be prosecuted... poor old Bill..."
Victorian postbox: Also on the wall of Laurel Cottage, but on the side facing Nep Town Road.
Coffee set: This table and its chairs - all ready for coffee for two - were sitting at the side of the road in South View Terrace, with the downs spread out in the distance.
SR trespass sign: I don't think the Southern Railway Horsham-Shoreham line passed through this house in Weavers Lane, but there's the sign by the front door.
Telephone Exchange works, 1-3: Some sort of box - air conditioning, perhaps - was being removed from the roof the telephone exchange by a large crane. These photos show the crane, the box and the van used to take it away.
