Miscellany 2 - notes
BP Guild Christmas Tree: Each year, about 10 days before Christmas, the Henfield BP Guild erect a large christmas tree, with lights, outside Barclays Bank. Quite often it's a struggle to pull such a large tree upright.
Bus depot: The bus depot shed once stood next to Miles's current forge location in Station Road. It was knocked down and blank space occupies the spot now, with the buses parking en plein aire.
War memorial 1 & 2: Two plaques commemorate the dead of the two world wars, and they sit side by side on the south wall of the Henfield club.
Bowls club: This is properly called the "Henfield Bowling Club", and is reached by going to the top of Furners Mead, turning left and continuing through the club gates.
Common windmill: This old black & white photo shows a group of children lolling around by a gate that leads up to the old mill on the common - known as "Barringer's Mill". It decayed, caught fire and was pulled down in 1957. It stood where the garden of the Mill House is today, overlooking the Lydds to the west and the common to the east.
Cricket pavilion: The pavilion doubles for both Henfield Cricket Club and Henfield Football Club use. The Henfield Cricket Club was formed in 1771 - one of the first in the country.
