In 1851 the farmer with 177 acres, employing 4 men and a boy, was 66-years old Henry Hider from Albourne and his wife Sarah from Hurstpierpoint. Thomas Patching, a 47-year old agricultural labourer, lived there with his wife Mercy and their two children in 1861. In 1871, Holedean was occupied by 39-year old farm bailiff Allen Davey with his wife Sarah Ann and their 4 children.
