The henfield club - claremont villa
The Henfield Club building has been many things in its time, from a private house called Claremont Villa to the village club. It stands on the corner of Cagefoot Lane and the High Street, across the lane from Stokes newsagents. The building became the Old Comrades Club after the Great War, then a branch of the British Legion, and now simply the Henfield Club.

Claremont Villa: This old black & white photo dates from between 1865 and 1870. It's clear that the house was the only habitation in what is now Cagefoot Lane. The field in from of the villa was known as the George field, and the village pound stands next to that. The photo appears to have been taken from an upper room of Moustows Manor.
Henfield Club 1: This black & white photo dates from the late 1990s. You can see that there are no war memorial plaques on the wall, no seat, and no flagpoles on the outside of the building.
Henfield Club 2: A photo from 2005 showing the war memorial plaques in place, and the seat, pot plant, satellite dishes and flagpole in situ.
Henfield Club 3: A photo from 2006, showing the union flag flying.
Henfield Club 4: This photograph from 2014 shows a further three flagpoles underneath the right-hand window.
Henfield Club 5: A photograph from 2015 showing both flagpoles in use and decorative pot with flowers all in place.
