EASTOUT
Eastout was built in 1610 and is tucked away on a lane leading off the Brighton Road. Until three years ago, the Parish boundary ran through the grounds of the farm, but now the whole property is in the Woodmancote parish. Richard Silverston, a 37-year old agricultural labourer, lived at Eastout with his wife Caroline and their family in 1851 and 1861. The house was shared with 66-years old William Maberley, also an agricultural worker, and his wife Hannah in 1851. In 1881 the occupier was Allen Saunders, a 29-year old agricultural labourer, his wife Jane, their five children and his mother-in-law, Mary.
In 1891, Eastout was occupied by two families: 60-year old farm carter Ephraim Puttick and his family; and 31-year old market gardener John Holder and his family.

Eastout: I was walking up the lane to Eastout one spring morning, intending to see what I could photograph of the house before turning right on to the footpath that crosses the Lydds down to Barrow Hill. The owner of the house happened to be by the gate and kindly invited me to take the picture shown here.
